Starting in mid-1991, Toyota released the new Soarer (Z30), offering the same general powertrain options as the A70 Supra. The JZZ30 was outfitted with Toyota's twin-turbo 1JZ-GTE, with the JZZ31 using the 2JZ-GE, and the UZZ30 and UZZ31 stuffing the 4.0L 1UZ-FE V8 inside. Toyota paired the 1JZ-GTE motor with a 5-speed manual transmission and Torsen differential, and is often seen as the “sporting” model, with lots of potential tuning and upgrades available. It was one of the first cars to have a GPS navigation system via CD-ROM as an option. The Soarer even saw use in various Japanese prefectures as a high-speed patrol car!
